  • Look For Longer: Spot the London Tube Stations

*Update October 2013: Looking for #LookforLonger 2? Click here.

Last week this bloke got in touch over email with a rather cryptic request, asking whether he could send me something in the post.

And because most of the post that arrives at my flat consists of BT bills, takeaway menus or a previous resident’s NHS test results, I was all “yeah, alright then – make my day”, even though it could have ended up being a lunchbox full of mould or something.

A few days later, this huge envelope arrives with a poster inside, and a hashtag printed at the bottom: #lookforlonger. It takes about half an hour of head scratching and going “I DON’T GET IT, WHAT THE HELL, COOL PIC THOUGH TOTALLY PUTTING IT UP IN MY ROOM” before it clicks: everything on the picture represents London tube stations.

    Look for longer

Anyway, it transpired this week that it’s all part of a rather clever marketing campaign promoting procrastination in the workplace (ok CBS Outdoor but whatever) – and you’ll probably see this very poster at Embankment and other tube stations around London.

It’s also online as an incredibly addictive “spot the tube station” game which you can play here:

My score currently stands at 50.

  • Oxford Street in “Not Driving Me to Complete and Utter Despair” Shock

Oxford Street in “Not Driving Me to Complete and Utter Despair” Shock

It’s been a while since I’ve willingly ventured onto the pavements of Oxford Street.

Quite frankly, the crowds alone usually make me want to run away yelling “Noooo, get thee to Westfield; lay me at the doors of West London’s premiere soulless indoor monster. All is forgiven”, and that’s before you consider I’m usually also looking for the perfect selection of clothes that, in all likelihood, probably don’t exist.

But after the success of Monday’s shopping outing, I feel I’ve been unfair, and one should never judge an area by the ratio of happiness to hatred alone. So in the spirit of keeping this blog about things I like, here are some winning moments from yesterday’s shopping trip.

    Excited? Yes you are. (more…)

  • Ten Different London Blogs to Read on your Lunch Break

There are a lot of blogs about London on the internet. About 9 million, at last count (source: my wild imagination)

However, my favourite blogs are the often ones that give a bit of a different insight into the city, delve (sometimes literally) below the surface, or take an every day element of London and give it some love, care and attention.

So here are ten blogs that might make you laugh, raise your eyebrows, or at any rate, will give you something slightly different to read on your lunch break.
