  • TimeOut London Wins “Ridiculous Sentence of the Day”

    Look, I like TimeOut London.

I don’t get the tube to work, so every Tuesday I even enlist the help of my colleague to grab it for me and drop it off on my desk. Then at lunch time, as I did today, I’ll have a little flick through and see what’s happening in the big city.

True, most of the inspiration for my East London Buzzwords Checklist for Journalists came from their pages, but overuse of the word “trendy” aside, who can complain? It’s free. It’s got more information about lovely ol’ London than this blog will ever have, and for that we must be thankful.

But blummin’ eck. They don’t half make it hard sometimes.

Oh, TimeOut. We both love this city, but when I read sentences like that, sometimes I’m just not sure we have that much in common.

    Seen anything ridiculous lately?

  • Ten Different London Blogs to Read on your Lunch Break

There are a lot of blogs about London on the internet. About 9 million, at last count (source: my wild imagination)

However, my favourite blogs are the often ones that give a bit of a different insight into the city, delve (sometimes literally) below the surface, or take an every day element of London and give it some love, care and attention.

So here are ten blogs that might make you laugh, raise your eyebrows, or at any rate, will give you something slightly different to read on your lunch break.

  • Two Ways to Appreciate London Without Leaving Your Desk

No matter what your stance on the Olympics (or, to use their full name, The Bloody Olympics), you’ve got to admit: the widening spotlight on our fair city has made a lot of people come over all appreciative of lovely old London.

And while I for one am not complaining about  the summer’s events, a lot of people are.

And it’s boring me. So if you’ve got half an hour – here are two things you should read and watch from the comfort of your desk that might just change your mind.
