Look For Longer: Spot the London Tube Stations

Last week this bloke got in touch over email with a rather cryptic request, asking whether he could send me something in the post.

And because most of the post that arrives at my flat consists of BT bills, takeaway menus or a previous resident’s NHS test results, I was all “yeah, alright then – make my day”, even though it could have ended up being a lunchbox full of mould or something.

A few days later, this huge envelope arrives with a poster inside, and a hashtag printed at the bottom: #lookforlonger. It takes about half an hour of head scratching and going “I DON’T GET IT, WHAT THE HELL, COOL PIC THOUGH TOTALLY PUTTING IT UP IN MY ROOM” before it clicks: everything on the picture represents London tube stations.

Look for longer

Anyway, it transpired this week that it’s all part of a rather clever marketing campaign promoting procrastination in the workplace (ok CBS Outdoor but whatever) – and you’ll probably see this very poster at Embankment and other tube stations around London.

It’s also online as an incredibly addictive “spot the tube station” game which you can play here:

www.lookforlonger.com

My score currently stands at 50.

*Updated, Friday: 57. Still so far to go…

*Updated, Monday: Warning! Spoilers / help below.

Have a go. How many can you spot?

  • Amy

I found it this morning and I’m stuck on 37. It’s driving me crazy.

    • sheloveslondon

57 and stuck on the wizard on the hill. WHY IS THERE A WIZARD ON THE HILL?

      • soup

Or you might ask: What is the wizard doing to the children?

        • sheloveslondon

After this week’s news, that’s a very topical question. Got it now though.

          • Skittles

I’m just missing the gardener with the bush, the flag on the building, the guns on the hill on the left and the windmill at the back. Got all the rest!

          • Bar

I’ve got them all except the rabbit in the hole on the hill… Grrr!

          • JAS

            Where does a rabbit live?

          • sheloveslondon

Got this one. You’ll kick yourself :)

          • http://twitter.com/tankmccormick Alex McCormick

They live in a Warren… so Warren Street… is that what we’re doing here?

          • sheloveslondon

Haha, nice try but not quite…

          • Girlukxx

Stuck at 62 right now… It’s driving me nuts. This is a list of the clues I haven’t guessed yet:

    - Fish
    - White cross
    - Orange
    - White church arch on the hill
    - Hay roll
    - Football player
    - Gunman on the roof
    - Dead pig
    - Dog with cake / pie
    - Flame
    - Mouse eating cheese
    - Rabbit in the hole
    - Wizard on hill

    • sheloveslondon

Re: mouse eating cheese, think of all the different types of cheese there are. I think the wizard stumped everyone! Gunman is shooting… What? Little clue! Stumped on the green dog too and the dead pig. With a bit of team work I think we can nail this one by Christmas…

      • http://twitter.com/Nielsch Niels N.

Thanks, I figured out the gunman myself. I figured out the dead pig too. What do they make from pork? And in what state is the pig? Combine those two and you’ll have your answer.

      • http://twitter.com/Nielsch Niels N.

Re: green dog, check out some of the known terrier breeds combined with the colour you’ve already mentioned.

    • Girlukxx

      Cakepie….think of a type of sponge….

      • http://twitter.com/Nielsch Niels N.

        Yeah, got it already. Thanks!

  • Test

Stuck on the green dog? Anyone know

    • http://twitter.com/Nielsch Niels N.

Yes, I do. Here’s a little clue: you’re looking for a terrier breed combined with the colour you’ve already mentioned.

  • http://twitter.com/Nielsch Niels N.

Just need the cheese and the white church facade or gate on the hill and I’m done…

    • Girlukxx

    • Ericbwong

on rather than in ….. Beak-on-tree

  • Mpainterchase

    man with rope and tv??

    • Ericbwong

Think of it as a screen rather than a TV and what the rope is doing to it.

  • Sydneysider

woman with big hairdo???? and fish on the road?? what tree is the man watering??! only 4 more to go and yeap it’s soo addictive

    • sheloveslondon

Think about the different types of fish there are…especially ones with “red” in the name, the woman with the big hairdo – it’s quite high, and in some parts of the world we have another name for “hair” ;)

      • Sydneysider

haha got the hair one, thanks! still stuck on the fish – snapper??!

        • Sydneysider

  • Morjen

Cant get the White Cross either!

    • Sean

      new cross

      • And

That’s harsh, as New Cross isn’t an Underground nor DLR station. No wonder I was stumped on my 75th. I got the red herring but missed this other red herring!

  • Morjen

Just need the Fish on the road…  PLEASE HELP!

    • http://twitter.com/missmossy missmossy

This one is a little controversial! Focus on the colour of the fish, and what type of fish it is.

    • Bmorris

did you get it? Its beyond bugging me

    • Kerrydixon76

the fish is red herring      get it

    • Georgiadearevalo

      red herring

  • 5h4n

What is the white gate behind Marylebone?

    • soup

its is a structure that spans a space and supports a load

      • sheloveslondon

Nice work. I think some of our clues are more inventive than the game itself sometimes.

        • soup

I agree. Its so much fun doing this. Its another way of prolonging the puzzle; and procrastinating.

The footballer was the most difficult for me. And the girl in drindl had me thinking oktoberfest!

          • sheloveslondon

Also, I wonder how many people repeatedly typed “Highgate” getting more and more frustrated at the game being broken until they noticed the plane was part of it.

          • Paulmollitt

I did! This got me so frustrated!

  • W Best

What is bale of straw on hill please

    • Stevie_D

      Hay nought = Hainault

  • http://twitter.com/P__Ho Paula Holmes

I’m stuck on the hay bale , gunner and footballer!

    • http://twitter.com/missmossy missmossy

      1. It is indeed hay. Can you think of a tube stop with that sound in its name?
      2. Focus on what is coming out of the gun
      3. It’s not so much about him being a footballer, it’s about what he’s physically doing, an action-word…

      • naz

im still lost on the footballer as so many pple gave hint…please help!!

        • officerlola

Check out his knee, what position it’s in. Is it down or…?

  • Isabel_Q

It took me an whole day to get 73/75. My brain is currently on strike, so could anyone help me with the last two? what is the guns/weapons on the green hill left? and what is the broken drum near the well?

    • Lee

       Snaresbroke

    • soup

      a collection of guns/weapons!
      the drum is a snare

      • Isabel_Q

I got the snare drum one! Thank you!
But the guns on the hill still confusing me, I need more clue ;’(

        • sheloveslondon

A collection of guns is a single word that is exactly the same as a north London tube station. Piccadilly line.

          • Isabel_Q

            Got it! Thank you!!

          • sheloveslondon

If anyone fancies another puzzle, perhaps you can help me with this one: http://sheloveslondon.com/2012/10/what-are-these-spiky-things-on-the-top-of-london-bus-stops-please/

      • sheloveslondon

Haha! Forget the man holding it, think about what’s tying…or…another word for tying…the screen.

        • Leroy Mccarthy

           still lost heeelp

  • Leroy Mccarthy

    • sheloveslondon

Is he a cook, or maybe he’s into baking?

  • Suzie_Lloyd

on 69 now and stuck on the last few – the gunner on top of mansion house, burning tree on the hill, the hay bale, footballer, four nuns, the bride on the hill help!

    • sheloveslondon

Have a read through the comments, there’s quite a few on your list that have been covered or hinted at already… Re: the bride, who’s she marrying? What’s the gunner shooting? What shape is the hay in? Where do nuns hang out? What’s the footballer doing?

      • Glasgow1975

the footballer & the nuns are driving me insane!

    • Gideon M Sher

      1) DLR station…. what is he “chute”ing. 2) what type of tree is it and what happens to something when you cook it for too long? 3) find any station which starts with the sound “hay” 4) Well, his limb certainly isn’t down…. 5) where do nuns live? 6) Occasion when a bride and groom get together, however the groom is a part of the human body!

Please help me with mine! the tower/pillar behind the the cottage of some type of cheese and the man with the rope!!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/stacytg Stacy H

Still can’t get the footballer – maybe it’s an action I don’t know, as I’m American? And the farmer with a shrub, and the shark in the road…

    • soup

The footballer had me stumped me too. Try working around the position of his right limb.

is he a farmer? he has a staff in his hand…

The shark is buried in a parking space

  • J F

I’m going mad trying to find the final few! I need 1. The thing that looks like chips by the barking dog. 2. The bale of hay rolling down the hill 3. the man shooting his gun 5. The Windmill and 6. The man with the TV wrapped in rope. Pllllleaasee help it’s driving me mad!

    • Gideon M Sher

Hi JF….. 1) What type of machinery are they and what colour are they? Flip those answers round and your have your answer 2) Stupid station that I have never heard of….. what is it made of…… and what is its shape? 3) Its a DLR station… what is he “chute”ing 4) what is the windmill on?…… now please give me more clues for my ones!

      • JF

TV one is hard. Past tense of bind & a piece of grassy land that sounds like screen.

That tower behind the hill is monumentally difficult…

        I have 74- out of 75 and I can’t find the last one – I mean I don’t know where it is – help!

  • Anonymous

What is the shard with a cross?

    • soup

the shard with a cross is a religious place of prayer and worship

  • Gideon M Sher

    Two left for me…..

The tower behind the cottage of a certain type of cheese and still cant get the tv/screen rope….. help please!!!!

    • Ian Bell

the tower is real and commemorates the great fire of london and with the tv one, you are right to refer to it as a screen and its not a tied screen its a …….screen

  • FB

Only two left! I need ‘Pressed’ and the big palace type building in the centre background – looks like something out of Aladin! Help please!

    • soup

And you have it “Pressed” on road.

The big palace type building is a city

    • JF

Where would Aladin say his prayers? and think about pressed as a verb then find what it might be prest-on.

  • GG

    Two left for me toooo…

The giant piggy bank and the big building above it… They’re both so big and no one else has asked about them so I feel I’m missing something obvious! :(

    • sheloveslondon

      The giant piggy… Hmmmmm

      • GG

Yes I got them last night… Silly me! :P

        • GG

Incidentally, I was wondering why they hadn’t done that station as it’d be easy to add in… turns out they did! :P

  • Chris Stephens

Still stuck on three. 1. the fire on the road 2. the dead pig 3. the glue sticking the road down.

  • Kaishka

I really don’t understand why you people are cheating, why oh why?

    • sheloveslondon

It’s not really cheating when the people who made the game encourage you to ask for clues in order to solve it. But yes, providing the answers isn’t really in the spirit of it. The majority here aren’t doing that.

  • singer

    Hi everyone,
I only have 2 left, and I’m not sure what they are!
